With more than 14 years of experience as a lawyer, I have handled various cases ranging from business litigation to bankruptcy to criminal defense.  Law is interdisciplinary if truly practiced properly and I am well versed in multiple practice areas to that end. I represent my clients in a comprehensive manner to not only solve current problems but to also stave off future issues.

I have a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, cum laude, from the University of Florida, where I was a teaching assistant and published member of the Florida Law Review.  I also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in American Politics and Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where I was a Dean's Award Graduate.

In addition to a distinguished military career during which I received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and Combat Action Badge, I have forthcoming recognition as one of the top 5% of lawyers in the state by Super Lawyers magazine and was rated the #12 lawyer in the Jacksonville metropolitan area for 2023.  My clients have enjoyed a high rate of success through my representations.

An Atlanta native, Johann was raised in the heart of the Florida Panhandle in Blountstown.  He is a  Dean's Award graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.  He then served as an AH-64 Apache Longbow aviator for a decade, commanding twice in combat in Iraq.  in addition to his aviator wings, Johann is a U.S. Army paratrooper, an honor graduate of the U.S. Air Force SERE school, and the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, and numerous Army Commendation and Achievement Medals.  He was also awarded the Combat Action Badge.  After his service, Johann graduated with honors from the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida, where he was a published member of the Florida Law Review.  He was employed at two internationally recognized law firms prior to founding The Hartford Firm.  He is adept at a broad array of legal fields and has a good reputation for achieving outstanding results for his clients.  His background as a warfighter characterizes his approach in court.

J.P. is a Blountstown native.  He is a graduate of Auburn University and successfully completed law school at the at the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida.  J.P. also is a partner in his own title company, and brings expertise in that field to the firm.

We are often asked the origin of the name "Hartford.""   To be clear, we are not affiliated with The Hartford insurance or financial services company.  Rather, the firm's name originates from the town of Hartford, Michigan, where Johann's great grandfather settled after immigrating from Holland in the 1920s.


Opa, as Johann's great grandfather was known, started a flower farm in Hartford (Hartford Farms), a farm that was the first to ship agricultural products by air, and which at one time was the largest farm in North America.  In a nod to his heritage, and the entrepreneurial spirit of his family, Johann named his law firm The Hartford Firm.
